Paul undertook his academic studies at Queen’s University Belfast before graduating with a Batchelor of Laws Degree in 1979. He immediately joined McKinty and Wright to complete his professional studies and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Northern Ireland in 1981. He became a Partner in the firm in 1986 and Senior Partner in 2006. He was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales in 1993 and in the same year to the Roll of Solicitors in the Republic of Ireland.
In 2005 he was elected to the Council of the Law Society of Northern Ireland, the Governing and Professional Body for Solicitors in this jurisdiction and is currently serving for his third consecutive term. He has served on the Council’s Professional Ethics and Guidance and Contentious Business Committees and is currently serving on the General Purposes and Finance, Financial Services and Criminal Law Committees and is Chairman of The Library and Information Services Committee. He has a particular interest in maintaining the high standards and professionalism of the Solicitors’ Profession and communicating to the public the important and vital role Solicitors play in providing access to justice and maintaining the Rule of Law.
Paul is also a member of The Law Society of England and Wales, The Law Society of Ireland, The Irish Legal History Society, The Northern Ireland Medico-Legal Society and The Forum of Insurance Lawyers
Since joining McKinty and Wright, Paul has over 30 years experience of dealing with Litigation and Dispute Resolution to the highest level. He has a particular interest in defending on behalf of Insurers personal injury claims arising from Road Traffic Collisions and has a well earned expertise and reputation in the handling of catastrophic injury claims, claims involving serious or complicated medical issues and injuries leading to significant care or financial loss claims. He also regularly advises on suspicious or fraudulent claims and on policy and indemnity issues and has handled the full range of claims that Insurers fall to deal with.
He regularly provides seminars and workshops to Insurers and others and has a detailed and practical knowledge of the Northern Ireland Legal System. He fully appreciates the needs and requirements of Insurers handling claims in the 21st Century and is committed to meeting those needs.
Paul has been consistently classified as a “Leader in his Field” in Chambers Guide to the UK Legal Profession for well over a decade and in the current edition it confirms that he “enjoys a strong profile amongst insurers”
